Type 1 Diabetes Diagnosis Story

Our Founders Diagnosis Story

It was February 2021 and Samantha was vacationing in Puerto Rico to beat the cold in Denver, Colorado - where she lives.

While in Puerto Rico, Samantha was having these weird symptoms (extreme thirst, blurred vision, leg cramps, constant urge to pee, extreme hunger, etc) and she wasn't exactly sure why. However, she tried to ignore the symptoms and continued on drinking her sugar-filled Pina Coladas!

When Samantha got home 5 days later, she went to her Primary Care Doctor to see what was going on with her body. Her doctor had no idea ... so she decided to take a comprehensive blood test.
The next morning, Samantha gets a call from her Primary Care Doctor with some bad news. Her doctor says "Samantha, I'm afraid you have Type 1 Diabetes. Your blood sugars are 420 and you need to go to the Emergency Room as soon as possible."

Not having a clue what Type 1 Diabetes was, Samantha hung up the phone and burst into tears. She ran to her boyfriend to tell him what happened.

They rushed to the ER and thankfully, was able to get in immediately. Samantha was placed in a bed with many IV's and spent two full days in the hospital.

Samantha has been Type 1 Diabetic since February 18th, 2021.

It may sound silly, but the day she was diagnosed, she knew she finally had a purpose in the world.

That purpose is to educate others on Type 1 Diabetes and also to help make living with type 1 diabetes a little easier.

Type 1 Tribe is an online marketplace focused on helping people living with Type 1 Diabetes to find and choose blood-sugar friendly snacks, as well as T1D accessories.
